The Lower Guadalupe River (below Canyon Dam)

Excursions on the tail-race below Canyon Dam are available for half day or full day excursions October through the end of May. Half day excursions are available year round. This excursion consist of floating and wading and are custom designed for the seasoned angler or a beginner (see packages below). There is a maximum of two anglers per trip.

The typical fish (Rainbow and Brown Trout) range from six to eighteen inches. Larger are less common but a distinct possibility, since the addition of a 9 mile trophy trout section which limits anglers to 1 trout over 18" per day on fly or artificial, only.

Summer months include fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Guadalupe Bass, Black Bass and other fresh water species.

The best rods to fish the Guadalupe River with are 4,5 or 6 weight rods 7'-8 1/2'in length. Chest waders, and felt soled wading boots are recommended on the slick and uneven river bottoms. A light rain jacket will come in handy no matter what the forecast (Texas weather can change in a couple of hours). Subdued colored clothing should be worn to prevent spooking the fish. Greens and browns are the best colors to wear. Extra clothing in the event of an unexpected dip in the river. A pair of polarized sunglasses are recommended to cut the glare on the water which, improves the chances of catching fish. We provide flies and guide boat, and/or canoes and kayaks for all trips. Drinks and lunch, for full day trips. We do not provide waders.

This excursion requires a Texas Fishing License and fresh water stamp.

Warm Water Fishing

May Thu November trips include fishing for Pan Fish, Large-mouth Bass, Small mouth Bass, White Bass etc. on other rivers and streams in the Texas Hill Country.

The Devils River is a spring fed, crystal clear river located in West Texas. There is nothing easy about this trip but the fishing is world class. It is not unusual to catch small-mouth in the 4-5 pound range. You will site cast to most fish. This trip is a little more costly than other excursions because of the location and expense of takeout and shuttle. Please call for details.

The San Marcos is smaller river but one of the most scenic rivers in Texas. Our Float begins at Spencers Canoes in Martindale and concludes in the town of Staples about 4 miles down stream. The water is generally crystal clear and requires site casting, accuracy and a good presentation.

The Colorado is one of the larger rivers in Texas. The excursion starts at Little Weberville Park and concludes at Big Weberville Park about 4 miles downstream. This is a great river in the fall months for big bass and catfish on the fly.

The Blanco river is a medium size river which is a tributary of the San Marcos River. The water is gin clear and is know as one of the premier small mouth fisheries. Excursions are in the Kyle area.

The Llano River is also gin clear water and requires a good presentation and accuracy. Excursion start just west of Mason, at the James River Crossing and concludes at the Homer Martin Ranch about 5 miles downstream.

Equipment should include rods, a minimum of 6 or 7 weight. Waders are not needed in the warm water streams and rivers.
